An Efficient Newton-Type Iteration for the Numerical Solution of Highly Oscillatory Constrained Multibody Dynamic Systems

چکیده
In this paper we present a coordinate-split (CS) technique for the numerical solution of the equations of motion of constrained multibody dynamic systems. We show how the coordinate-split technique can be implemented within the context of commonly used solution methods, for increased eeciency and reliability. A particularly challenging problem for multibody dynamics is the numerical solution of highly oscillatory nonlinear mechanical systems. Highly stable implicit integration methods with large stepsizes can be used to damp the oscillation , if it is of small amplitude. However, the standard Newton iteration is known to experience severe convergence diiculties which force a restriction of the stepsize. We introduce a modiied coordinate-split (CM) iteration which overcomes these problems. Convergence analysis explains the improved convergence for nonlinear oscillatory systems, and numerical experiments illustrate the eeectiveness of the new method.

On the Numerical Solution of Constrained Multibody Dynamic Systems
A new formulation of the equations of motion of constrained multibody systems is presented using a coordinate-splitting (CS) technique. In contrast to the conventional index reduction techniques which apply diierentiation to the Lagrange formulation, this approach applies the coordinate-split operator to the variational form of constrained dynamics, yielding consistent dynamic equations of mult...
متن کاملEfficient corrector iteration for DAE time integration in multibody dynamics
Efficient time integration is a key issue in computational multibody dynamics. Implicit time integration methods for stiff systems and constrained systems require the solution of a system of nonlinear equations in each time step. The nonlinear equations are solved iteratively by Newton type methods that are tailored to the structure of the equations of motion in multibody dynamics. In the prese...
متن کاملThe Comparison of Direct and Indirect Optimization Techniques in Equilibrium Analysis of Multibody Dynamic Systems
The present paper describes a set of procedures for the solution of nonlinear static-equilibrium problems in the complex multibody mechanical systems. To find the equilibrium position of the system, five optimization techniques are used to minimize the total potential energy of the system. Comparisons are made between these techniques. A computer program is developed to evaluate the equality co...

متن کاملPerformance of automatic differentiation tools in the dynamic simulation of multibody systems
Within the multibody systems literature, few attempts have been made to use automatic differentiation for solving forward multibody dynamics and evaluating its computational efficiency. The most relevant implementations are found in the sensitivity analysis field, but they rarely address automatic differentiation issues in depth. This paper presents a thorough analysis of automatic differentiat...
